Access bridges to White River Golf Club

This contract commenced in May 2012 to August 2012. This contract was initially split into two sections, a bridge over the 7th fairway river crossing and secondly a bridge over the White River to access the 10th hole tee box. The challenge to building the first bridge was to get access to the support column in the middle of the White River. This was done by building an access road, with soil fill, to the spot where the column was built. Precast concrete rings were installed and the access fill road removed. The precast concrete rings were filled with concrete and the bridge steel constructed and spanned over the White River. This had to be constructed according to tight deadlines as the golf course made use of temporary greens whilst construction was in progress. For the second bridge more of a traditional construction method was used. We constructed two reinforced concrete abutment walls to retain the soil on either side of the river embankment. Where the abutment walls ended, gabion mats and loffelstein blocks were used to retain the river bank and vegetation these walls were totally independent of the supporting abutment walls. A steel bridge structure was donated by “Steval Engineering” and thus did not form part of our contract, although we assisted in the installation of the steel structure. Both bridges were completed timeously and with minimum disruption to the golf course.
