Overview

CSS Builders were privileged to build one of the first brand new Astron Service Stations in South Africa. Astron Service Stations were formerly Caltex Service Stations and have recently gone through a name change and marketing enhancement of the brand. CSS Builders won the tender towards the end of 2023. It was a tight timeline and we had 4 ½ months to complete. The work entailed complete demolition of the existing service station and Fresh Stop retail store, including digging up of and removing the existing underground fuel tanks. Installing 3 new 23 000 litre tanks. CSS Builders encountered many challenges which included most of the site being on rock, and huge concrete bases that were discovered , broken up and removed from site not to mention underground water. CSS Builders were able to work in conjunction with the consultants who were very hands on to overcome these obstacles to see the contract through to completion. The newly constructed Forecourt with 10 pumps and a new Freshstop Retail Store with ablutions facilities was opened up on the 28th of June 2024. The client McGees Ford are very pleased with their new service station and Retail Store that has made a big difference to the surrounding CBD. This was a collective effort of all subcontractors involved spearheaded by CSS Builders seeing the contract through to its successful completion.
